And also way too many candidates with 0% chance of winning (but still had books to sell and consultants who wanted to get paid) splitting the vote and allowing a 33% win in NH effectively seal the nomination.

Re. Rubio, let's not forget the decision by the honorable establishment family to drop an anvil of cash on Rubio's head for months on end, all so the preferred candidate could come in 7th place.

Oh sure, and despite it all, it felt possible until that moment at least in terms of the trajectory.

But Cruz did survive to be the counter to Trump. He appealed to the Jeb!/Rubio money men and the establishment to help him. They stood by and then later backed McMuffin the closet leftist. That said a lot about who the elite of the GOP were.

If Rubio comes in second in NH, and Jeb and kasich drop, SC could have been in play, and that might have stopped trump

What’s interesting about NH debate is it was the media that killed Rubio. The live debate tracking for Rubio was actually really strong, I believe strongest, but the media-fixation (MSM and pro-Trump) on that 15 seconds post-debate doomed him after. Live-time people didn’t care.

The refusal / failure of the 2016 field to gang up on Trump or at least call a cease fire against each other was a big part of his success. Most candidates only took him on after they were desperate or fatally wounded which played to his “strength”
