My heart is bursting. On the eve of my first child's birth, my dad - who's been in prison nearly my entire life - was granted clemency. He never intended harm, yet his crime devastated many families. My heart breaks for the families that can never get their loved ones back.

I, for one, am always shocked when I'm acting as a getaway driver for an armed robbery by members of a militant group and three people get murdered. I never intended harm! I just like to drive fast with stolen money in the car.

(Honestly, I don't even have a per se problem with him being freed after all these years. But don't say absurd things like "he never intended harm" when he participated in actions of which "harm" was a likely and foreseeable consequence.)
