In our "meadow" last year, the first time we'd done no cutting rather than infrequent cutting, which is about 12m2, we had 3 dingy skippers, a Derbyshire priority species. I'm hoping for more this year and some on our green roof.
I haven’t mowed my lawn for three years and have had to sow wildflower seeds into pots because I can’t get anything to grow in the lawn. I have even shook the seeds from wildflower hay onto it and so far it is t working.
This link gives sound advice about creating a 'meadow' area if you're struggling with a grassy lawn - might involve a bit of initial work but it's worth it.

A great excuse for the Highways Agency and local authorities to not keep verges cut and clear visibility splays for safety. Lots of overgrown weeds to hide all the litter thrown out of cars too. A Win Win Win?
