To help provide a *minimal* amount of transparency to patients about how a health app will use their health information, should implement a basic privacy framework requiring certified vendor to check an app’s “yes/no” attestations to... /6

W/o control over how their is used, ppl will resort to workarounds, which leads to bad data, which creates potential for pt harm &stalls goals/R&D. Partic as we evaluate use of AI/ML in health care, consider that providing individuals with control benefits the greater good.

Appreciate & sharing insights from patients about the promises & pitfalls of emerging health tech. These points should be front of mind for folks working in this space; to maintain pt trust, we must address pitfalls as we work towards promises.

The best of intentions can be misunderstood without transparency, especially in healthcare. We need to tackle the jurisdiction of HIPPA and be able to talk to people plainly about their data and what is done with it.

We should be paying more attention to sharing small data. When consumers get information, they may want to share bits and pieces but not their entire medical record. Patients should be able to share what they want with who they want.

Right. Shutting down access is NOT the answer. Rather, we can & should arm pts w/ info w/o increasing friction. AMA urges transparency-not barriers-in final rule. Empower pts w/ their data AND info about what their app does. No reason this can't be done.

A little louder for the people in the back. 📢 1 - Patients need not choose between privacy and access. 2 - PRIVACY BY DESIGN = transparency from tech platforms + enforcement of our rights. 3 - Privacy and access to our own health data = INALIENABLE HUMAN RIGHT.

Let's not forget the huge journalism "campaign" documenting apps selling pt data w/o a patient's knowledge & in violation of privacy policies on a daily basis. ONC can & should give patients health data AND privacy info. Stop pretending it has to be one or the other.

Thank you for this question! can (& shld) use its authority to regulate certified to ask an app about its privacy practices. MPN? Privacy by design? Code of Conduct? Regardless of answer, app connects. But pts not only get health data: they get privacy info.

Here is a case study for FTC enforces PHR breach notification rule. I support and ONC rules but we cannot pretend this problem is “out of scope.” Need privacy standards for these apps.

wild scoop by Motherboard this is what happens when you have no restraints. companies quietly collect and then sell your "every click" on "every site" (under the guise of anti-virus software!)

So interesting that all these big tech companies want the rules finalized without any transparency provisions requiring ppl to be told what apps will do with their data. Wonder why that is... 🤔
