Ana Navar ignored the vast literature on statin adverse effects, referring instead to a anti-vax web site. Her ignorance of 60 peer-reviewed journal articles on adverse effects is in our commentary:

This has been a teachable moment for me. It's not the $ that influences Ann. She has such faith in statins as wonder drugs she ignores studies that reveal adverse statin effects and only cites a web site, not literature. That is why her editorial was offensive to sci discourse.

One of the primary reasons that anti-vaxers even exist is that the medical profession has already been caught lying so much about things like this.

Comparing people who discuss the negatives of statins with anti-vaxers is disgraceful. As if statins can come anywhere close to the evidence base for vaccines. Sadly this will only give more fuel to the anti-vax fire, as people continue to lose faith.

I disclosed all this in my editorial. All statins I prescribe are generic and cost <10$/Mo. Paradoxically statin intolerance fueled by this misinformation benefits pharma who can sell higher priced alternatives. This isn’t about big pharma it’s about patient health.

Different perspective wrt statins: "...simply changing definition of a disease or lowering threshold of a surrogate marker turns healthy people into patients and leads to overdiagnosis and unnecessary treatments." https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/bjsports/early/2018/01/16/bjsports-2017-098497.full.pdf?ijkey=Rsap0XafljfcOCR&keytype=ref …

Still have not read this because of the paywall, but how does one compare preventing an infectious disease with preventing a chronic disease? Another attempt at statin deniers=anti-vaxers?
-
the point of the editorial was that people who criticize vaccination are not basing their views on valid science, and the author says people who raise issues about statin adverse effects are getting their info at unscientific web sites, not from medical journals
