I'm revising this tweet, in light of a very patient comment by a friend. Where can I move where my parents can enjoy beautiful scenery, excellent healthcare, and being part of a diverse community that is committed to a functioning government that serves all citizens and residents

This is, I suspect, somewhere in the South. Indeed, I'm beginning to think that it is somewhere in North Carolina. And maybe instead of fantasizing about getting away from white supremacy/bigotry by changing zip codes, I should be looking for...

...where I can best join in the work of the Beloved Community transforming the zip code in which we find ourselves. Why can't I do that here? tl;dr: my parents moved here to live near us, but they *really* don't like Texas. However, healthcare here is better than central CA.

Mr. B is retiring in less than 2 years, and that would be the time to make a move. My parents could see the snow-capped Sierra Nevada range out their kitchen window in CA but were 2 hrs away from decent health care. Here they're 30 min away from good healthcare but it's...TX.

So I am trying to find the perfect place for them in their old age and us in the fullness of our strength. Has to be scenic, has to have good health care, has to have a critical mass of people who are committed to justice and love for all. NC has mountains and beach. CA 2.0?

Tacoma, WA. PNW, views for days, close to UW Medical Center, great local culture.

seconding Tacoma! it's really actually quite nice there and very conveniently located. And less expensive than Seattle.

I am biased but Bloomington, Indiana for country and Philadelphia for city.

I was thinking maybe Pennsylvania somewhere. My surmise is that Philadelphia is going to be much more expensive than the Dallas area. How are the rural or exurban parts of Pennsylvania?
