To date, 48,821 residents have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. 3,602 people have been hospitalized locally, including 833 ICU patients, and 806 have died. An estimated 44,341 people have recovered.

Biggest news of the day is that we remain in the red tier. Today, our state assessed and adjusted case rate came in at 6.5. Our testing positivity percentage remains at 3.5%.

Three new residents have died of COVID-19 bringing the region's death toll to 806. The victims were identified as two men ages 55 and 59 and an 80-year-old woman. All three had underlying conditions.

SD County officials reporting 161 new COVID-19 cases, about 2% of the 8,788 tests logged yesterday. The region's rolling 14-day avg of percentage of positive cases is 2.9%. None of today's cases were linked to SDSU, but 2 previously reported cases were linked to the college.

The county also announced a new testing site in Chula Vista today. The no-appointment, drive-up location will provide free tests from 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday at the South Chula Vista Library. Visit http://www.211sandiego.org for more info.

Back to who at school should be tested and how often: The who: - Teachers, paraprofessionals, cafeteria workers, janitors and bus drivers The how often: - All staff over a 2-month period. Either 25% of staff are tested every two weeks or 50% of staff is tested every month.

Macchione addressing walk-up testing. The four sites that will cater to school personnel will require appts. All other sites will be walk-up. Those locations are still appointment-preferred so it might be a faster process if you have one, but you won't be turned away w/out one.
