i just got harassed & physically and verbally threatened by a man with his group of friends in @LAPublicLibrary. worst part is that when i reported it to the librarian, he said if we "don't both settle down" he would call security on both of us

i was doing work on my laptop when this man left his group of friends and came up to my table and leaned in to comment on my eyes. when i ignored him, he got in my face and shouted, "HELLO?!?" to demand a response from me and would not leave me alone

i looked up and told him to get away from me. he went off calling me nasty names and being more physically intimidating. eventually he said that he would "fuck me up" - i said excuse me? "you heard what i said bitch"

when i reported him, his boys started covering for him that "he never said that" - the librarian thought the appropriate response was to tell ALL of us (myself included) to calm down - did not even attempt to remove this man from the space or report it

it's so freaking dangerous and uncomfortable to subject a woman of color to remain in a threatening situation in a free and open public space, and, worse yet, to go as far as to threaten her with the same consequence as her harasser

i almost got thrown outside with the man physically threatening to harm me and his whole group of friends. only after repeatedly expressing that i felt unsafe did the library finally get security involved.
