If you're thinking the new CDC mask guidance is premature, ignores prevention, ignores long Covid, ignores the tens of millions with compromised immune systems or not eligible for vaccines, and ignores the risk of new variants... Well, sadly, you're right.

Folks, not to ruin everybody's good time, but there is probably something very fundamentally wrong with a society that is telling you that you are experiencing mental health issues because you find the idea of thousands of people dying preventable deaths every week.... disturbing

100,000 deaths: “AN INCALCULABLE LOSS” 900,000 deaths: “BUOYANT ECONOMY” + “Many Americans Move On” This is how they manufacture consent and desensitize the public to mass death
New York Times Headline: “US NEAR 100,000, AN INCALCULABLE LOSS”
New York Times Headlines:

“AMID COVID WAVE, BUOYANT ECONOMY ADDS 467,000 JOBS”

This toolkit is…(pauses to gather my angst) the most irresponsible thing I have read all day. Its been terribly frustrating to see remote school and masks blamed for the negative mental health impacts of living in a PANDEMIC rather than a focus on keeping kids physically safe.

JUST IN: Ahead of tomorrow’s student-led walkout, #MCPS “has committed, on a case-by-case basis, to offer virtual instruction to students who are not in quarantine but have concerns about attending school due to COVID-19.”

Funny how people who vigorously advocated against looking at rising cases in December/earlier in Jan are now thrilled about falling cases in some areas - even as hospitalizations remain at a record high. Over 142K hospitalizations = "normal"

Like clockwork, every COVID minimizer, one second past the peak of every surge: “The pandemic is over! Off-ramps! Back to normal!” Do they have no shame?

call me a doomer but it’s a stupid idea to make people come into a small store to get free masks when we could mail them or set up many small outdoor/indoor public access points. this is the lazy-Dem consultant way to do things, which is public-private partnerships or bust

This is so many DOE policies within memory, mechanics not thought thru, disproportionate, inequitable impact. Path of least resistance/quick fix/change the headlines.

NYC's new attendance policy is predictably chaotic 👉some marking all kids who do work at home present 👉others doing so only for kids w COVID or quarantine Bronx Science👇 Mechanics weren't thought through & the btw sch variation is bound to bring equity q's to the fore

We agonized over the decision to send the boys to school. We shared the common concerns around social development. "Balancing" work & child care was untenable - I was an increasingly ineffective mentor, colleague, & scientist. They made it exactly 1 day before contracting COVID

Wow Harvard will have uninfected students sleep in same room as their infectious roommates unless they petition for a new room. I’d be pissed if it was my kid A slippery slope for when cases are manageable & Harvard is trying to keep outbreaks at bay. thecrimson.com/article/2022/1
