So many business books go from being okay to being excellent if you can filter the content through the learnings you’ve picked up about business dynamics instead of relying on the book to do all the work for you.

I too love the moment when you put the pieces together yourself and say, wow, that’s like X Risk is you can end up just confirming your priors rather than looking for new frameworks/lessons

Are you speaking about the how-to genre of books, the theoretical, or the more biographical ones? I find i get the most of the how to genre but maybe I’m missing your original point.

Yea, I find books most useful when the author just tell the story/facts without (too much) of their own interpretation as what lessons to draw from.
