It's an interesting question... another question is why a consumer staple that showed no signs of demand loss (indeed, the opposite) in its latest earnings call is being priced at under 10x earnings, while discretionary companies with clear demand challenges like
$SBUX trade >20x -
In 09 the cigs shipments declined 10%. If that happens (and the company isn't able o offset it w/ price), with today's debt, the net income will go down. W/ 80% guided payout ratio, dividend will go down. Both PE and Div. Yield will probably be higher and lower in such situation

I couldn't possibly sell a product that would cause death, so I invest in companies and management who don't mind doing just that. It's definitely in the "Earth Fcker" sleeve of my personal account.

But I think the answer is a lot. I mean, how many packs does it take on average to kill someone? Is it $100k worth of cigarettes or 200k sticks over a lifetime?
