Shorts losing money in $W is sad and I wish it didn’t happen. But the market is under no obligation to behave how we believe it ought to.
Markets are metagame heavy.
Even if you’re right, you can still be wrong. Not just in the short term, either. Possibly permanently.

"But the stock went from $30 to $170 in a month could the business value have changed so much in that time?" Could have! Sequencing risk: if a company needs thawed capital markets to have a shot to reach viability, value can slingshot radically based on perceptions of openness.

That is possible but value absolutely can change that much, that quickly. "Value" is only kind of real.
