On the mirror subject, I always found it odd that shareholders can sue the company for damages. You are either suing your own economic interest, of if you have sold you are suing the new shareholders who are even less to blame than you are.

It would make sense to sue management or maybe the previous s/holders. So here is an extension to your idea. S/holders liable for what happened while they owned the stock, enforceable even after they sell. Toxic.
