How long did you have to wait between steps 1&2? Guessing there’s some positive association before that as well

No it’s like immediate because it will scare him anyway. It can actually be harder this way vs. cornering then because you can’t see them under the box. It’s immediate so he doesn’t just leave. Cornering can be a better strategy BUT you tend to take more claws.
