$UA is a billion dollar business built on deception. This isn't unethical. Kevin Plank's willingness to deceive his earliest customers helped him reach escape velocity to build a billion dollar business now employing ~15,000 people. What even is fraud, really?pic.twitter.com/IwYBI9aDiL

How is it deception? He didnt sell anything wrong, or try to increase his prices. He just fought back on negotiating prices lower. Not really sure how else a sales person conveys accountability

I mean he literally lied about not being able to offer better terms because of a made up boss at a made up office, and admits it. That seems deceptive to me. But IMO it's okay that he did that.

So you're saying its OK to negotiate previously communicated terms and pricing but not OK to say you can't do it because of your boss (which you are, yourself - so you literally are not doing it because you don't give yourself permission to do it) - Not sure where the lie is.

No, I didn't say that. I said it was okay that it was deceptive because it helped the company reach escape velocity and become a contributor to society, for example, by employing 15,000 people. There is no moral judgment here. It WAS deceptive, but we need to destigmatize that.

I think words matter. I am a huge fan of your thinking but I feel like labeling this behavior as deceptive makes it dangerous. I think of it as inventive resourcefulness to get your company going. Sort of flywheel "things that dont scale" behavior. Theranos was fraud. UA wasnt.

If he sold shit shoes, screwed people out of money to get going, wrote bad checks, misrepresented his shoes in any way, then its Fraud.
