My last post wasn't very difficult to write, but it was quite difficult to put out there. I want to talk a bit about that challenge.https://putanumonit.com/2020/01/13/go-f-someone/ …

It's about getting stuck in a spiral of status-seeking and self development instead of opening up to relationships, and some issues around that (narcissism, culture war, parenthood, social media). I think it's a huge issue... for a minority of people.

Many people don't have this problem, they work on relationships alongside working on themselves. And some number of people can't find even casual relationships and actually need to self-develop first. I addressed both in the first few paragraphs, saying "this ain't about you".

Try as I did, I got negative feedback from both groups, saying that the post is banal or condescending, respectively. A lot of friends also told me privately that they loved it. Unfortunately, they all seem to be all people who didn't really need the advice.

My hunch is that the people I was talking about, who really need to wake up from self-obsession, are busy downvoting it. So: I tried to give advice targeted to a minority of readers, advice they don't want to hear, and I think I failed. And I'm not really sure how it can be done.

This was a cool article. I didn’t start dating until this past year and regret that decision. More at-bats seems to lead to better outcomes.
