Homeschooling has stigma for a good reason. It can definitely work well but many parents don’t actually educate or socialize their children, and leave them to fend for themselves. Should absolutely be an option and in some cases it’s the best one but it needs to be monitored IMOhttps://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1203178137653301248 …

Was taken out of school at 9 and wasn’t taught anything. No one had time or wanted to force me, so I didn’t learn. I’ve been gradually learning but I can’t qualify for many conventional jobs because I don’t have an elementary school education, let alone college.

My socialization has improved a lot. It’s still not where it needs to be, but when I came out of seclusion I was a total mess. Didn’t have any furniture, slept on the floor, would just say the craziest things. Had no life skills to speak of. No one taught me any of them.

My gigs are mostly in fields that aren’t gatekept because no one can stop me from participating. In some ways I feel shut out of conventional society. It’s worked out okay. Better than anyone really expected. But it has required blazing my own trail. There is no roadmap for me.

Being taken out of school was good in some ways. It let me study my own passions. But in terms of having a broad education, socialization, and credentialing, it was debilitating. I would only recommend it if you have a support system invested in your development.
