My parents have always guilted me during holidays because “I’m never grateful enough”. Because I have a hard time expressing appreciation in such situations they think I am unfeeling and ungrateful. It’s made me very anxious about receiving gifts.
I’m terrified that someone is going to propose to me someday and I won’t be “grateful enough” if I don’t jump up and down and scream. I will be so unbelievably happy, but what if I can’t express it enough?
i have this exact problem too my mom guilted me this holiday season too and it really hurts. :( its just not how i express my gratitude.
my expression of affection is like that of a cat’s. i dont like to hug or be hugged nor do i jump up and down but i will express my love by spending my time with someone i do find that writing how i feel is a lot easier than verbally of physically expressing it
