This is a T rated game with themes and humor that is just more culturally accepted in Japan than overseas. It’s also tricky when such a colorful game hide such mature themes. To localize and acclimate Mother 3 to Nintendo’s standards today would change much of the game...
I truly feel it couldn’t get by with a T rating as it stands. Definitely M though. There are some pretty dark themes in the game and at one end, I don’t blame Nintendo for not localizing it. On the other, it was never a kiddy game. Why make it one now?

I feel like it’s more the non-dark themes that make it less approachable to the company’s eyes. Plenty of Nintendo games have themes of death; Majoras Mask is littered with this. But I don’t know if society is *woke* enough for Magypsies and a trans villain, for example
