This might sound like semantics over a single word but Western society was kind enough to offer another example in "Men going their own way" (bye.) which openly expresses hatred for women and see feminists & the LGBTQ community as obstacles to their goals
He identified as an incel, and again, just choosing your name reveals a lot of your beliefs: involuntary, as if sex is something owed them by virtue of simply being a man. They talk about genetics and other causes for not finding love or sex instead of turning to introspection

Instead of examining himself he turned to like-minded folks to talk about his experience, which would be a normal thing to do except that what they talk about is emblematic of a deep and bitter hatred for women for not giving these men something they think they are owed.

Constantly fomenting hatred and vitriol will, in my opinion, eventually lead to dehumanizing the object of your hatred which is what we saw from this "man" on Monday. We men must not be silent in the face of their hate, we must use our privilege and position b/c who else will?

The obvious answer is that women will do so, as a function of defensive necessity. Putting aside how fucked up that is, I RT'd a thread showing THEY HAVE BEEN (for years, no less) and were ignored, their job prospects were cut, they were harassed, and they received death threats

One of the people I RT'd had concrete examples of this backlash! I would plug it again except their tweets are now protected, I am assuming they started getting a ton of hate for speaking up about misogyny which is TRAGICALLY ironic as that is *exactly what they were describing*

I constantly hear that women are afraid to ride their bikes if it's near dark, they're afraid to go on dates or have lunch with coworkers in case they think it's a date, they're afraid to give out phone #'s to avoid stalkers, and now, they're afraid to walk down the street.

They're afraid because these stories are so commonplace as to be ubiquitous - we cannot let that stand, and I'll give you an example of the impact you can have by confronting misogyny you encounter with friends, family, coworkers, whatever

Think of women rejecting advances by saying "I have a boyfriend", and the other person leaves them alone instantly. Think about the power behind that statement, women know that saying "no" will not work so instead they invoke the boyfriend, which DOES work

It (largely) works because men respect this imaginary man more than they respect any other rejection a woman can give. Leveraging that power, actively refuting misogynistic behavior can carry a LOT of weight with other men b/c *it comes from another man*

New summary, 1) the sex trade in Japan is (largely) legal and expanding - great 2) men are trash and often respond to feminism by finding new ways to hate women, they should instead closely examine their values and selves: "am I a bad one?" 3) men must actively confront misogyny.

4) 3 again - we must. We must! My heart breaks at the thought of so many people constantly spending so much time and emotional labor being afraid or avoiding violence, I cannot imagine how draining and horrifying an experience that must be.
