Centuries-old organization coerced into releasing 300-word statement about small rock arrangement on land it operates. Very normal stuff.

More golf is not always better. More meaningful, entertaining golf with the best players? Sure, but not more for the sake of more. The primary culprit here, by the way, is the Tour. Its schedule should be cut in half, but most of its members aren’t incentivized to vote for that.

When we've talked over the past few years about how LIV was just going to make pro golf into two shittier products instead of one really good one, this week's a good example of what we had in mind.

Isn't filling hours of dead time the reason the CW signed up to broadcast LIV?

Replying to @danny__woodhead
It sounds great, but we would dominate them so soundly and it would be over so quick that tv would have to fill an hour of dead time. That’s why it’s not happening at this time 🤷‍♂️

Cam Smith on the OWGR: "For sure it hurts. I feel as though I was really close to getting to No. 1, and that was definitely something I wanted to tick off. But the longer that this stuff goes on, I think the more obsolete those rankings become."

So excited for this. My admiration for NLU is well documented, my affection for KVV less so. He has been such a generous mentor and friend, and I'm pumped for the union of his creativity to a space that will continue to foster it. ❤️

Today is my first day as part of @NoLayingUp. I'm going to be the company's Editorial Director, and lead its expansion of written content. I'm really excited to work with such a smart group of friends. This is my first piece. It's called "Comets." nolayingup.com/blog/comets-ke

Rory on his one-shot win in Dubai over Reed: "I expended a lot of mental energy today trying to focus on myself and focus on shooting a score and trying to reach a number. I had to work really hard to forget about who was up there and just try to focus on myself."

"Do the Claret Jug but make it comically and ostentatiously big. Make it big enough for Chez Reavie to potentially be hiding inside."

A lot of folks missing the point here. Stories are better when there's more (not less) friction. So much of the friction was removed from the Tour when Brooks, Reed, Phil and Bryson left. Great for a Tour that says it desires only gentlemen, bad for fans who enjoy epics.

Reed's week in Dubai represents part of why LIV's existence is frustrating. The top guys who left the PGA Tour are a lot of things, but boring isn't one of them. If contrasting styles make fights then contrasting characters make leagues, and the Tour is missing some of its best.

Only 11 players broke par today at Torrey. Only three (Max, Keegan, Day) were better than -3.

Feels like it isn't being stressed enough: Max Homa's 66 was a SCORE today. Max gained eight(!!) strokes on the field average today. An absolute display.

Max was near tears in his interview after the round. I'm always struck by his willingness to be vulnerable and wrote about it recently in Normal Sport 2.

Max Homa: "It's a beautiful game. Sometimes you're just one good swing thought away from being good again." What a great quote.

Max Homa has now entered the final round of a PGA Tour event inside the top five nine different times, and he's won *six* of them. That's impossible!
