go onto any of stimpy's or anyone else's old 720p videos, all vp9. only difference is viewcount.

yes they get to be higher quality because more people are gonna see them/more people have seen them. that is so they can save space.

that's so backwards lol. you'd think they'd prefer people to upload in smaller resolutions to save space, especially after seeing everyone abuse the 1440p workaround. there really should just be an option on which codec to choose. avc1 for quick processing times, vp09 for quality

they probably plan to make vp9 used everywhere eventually. it isnt backwards since high resolution videos are going to require higher bitrates to look good but still be compressed. most 720p videos are going to look like shit anyways so why not just ultra compress them?

the fidelity of 720p video isnt good enough to make switching to vp9 worth it. 1440p video is much larger and has the potential to look alot better than 720p. even if people are abusing the "1440p vp9" way youtube works, its not enough for youtube to care.

1440p is literally 2x the amount of pixels as 720p i dont think we're on the same page but im js youtube isnt doing this for no reason

of course, but it wouldn't kill them to make it an option for channels that are at least partner verified (like myself)
