i'm so frustrated. i just found out why my 720p renders looks blurry as fuck. avc codec. channels with higher view-counts get a codec called vp9 which is significantly clearer at 720p and 1080p. @TeamYouTube is there any way to manually enable vp9?
thanks for the reply, but that didn't exactly answer my question.. is it possible to manually select what codec the video is processed with? i'd like to be able to choose vp09, but i'm stuck with avc1.

You can't manually select which codec is used by YT for your video. Our system selects which codec to use based on a variety of factors. We're continuously looking to improve playback & video quality on YT, and we have recently started early experiments with the new AV1 codec.

well, why not? i'm sure if you just labeled them as "fast upload" and "best quality" it would simplify it enough for the people who don't know about the codecs, and it would help out the people who just want the best quality a lot. the option to choose would just be great.
