This may not be tech related, but I'm living an example: Home buying is usually known as an extremely stressful process. It's been relatively straightforward for me because we acknowledged what we could realistically afford very early, and sometimes it wasn't in our "ideal" hood

how do you square this with people like Kanye or Elon who imagine a world they want to see and then stop at nothing to build it? if they just worked off of "the way things are" then they wouldn't have accomplished half of their biggest achievements

These things are not at all mutually exclusively. Building what you want to see starts with contending with how things ARE. these are not separate concepts.
