I am so exhausted making the case that black folks don't deserve to be randomly murdered out in the open. Doesn't matter if they're criminal legal system involved. We've gutted communities and care for decades and folks need mental health care. The Mayor and Gov are a disgrace.

There's a worrying spiral going on in American cities. As poverty and mental illness become more visible, any attempt to address them with meaningful services prompts reactionary pushback.
"Why should my tax dollars go to Those People!?"

Maybe, and hear me out, we should invest in public health including comprehensive mental healthcare, as well as housing for all, and drastically reduce the number of upset, mentally ill, hungry people screaming for help

People are disruptive on public transit all the fucking time and we manage not to *choke them to death* because there are a million other options for de-escalating or avoiding the situation.
The idea that riders had no other option in Neely's case is insulting.

Jordan Neely’s murder and this anti-Black violence is a direct result of cop mayor Eric Adams and his “crime wave” induced panic.
Jordan Neely’s life mattered and he deserved to live. RIP. twitter.com/Phil_Lewis_/st

Good thing I, as the writer of this episode, do not benefit from this success because of the current streaming residuals model

I’m at the Broadway-Lafayette station, where a crowd of people is protesting the killing of Jordan Neely on an F train yesterday.

The thing is that writing is actually work. We romanticize it, and it is a wonderful thing to get to do professionally, but it is work that makes a lot of money for a lot of people -- just not the people who actually do the work.

come honor jordan neely, a black unhoused tenant murdered in the subway yesterday by a white marine. this vigilante terror is a direct result of nyc’s cop mayor and the crime panic, which scapegoats the victims of real estate for the consequences of real estate greed.

I think it’s very weird that people are arguing that we shouldn’t support a writer’s strike because television is so important and they don’t want that interrupted.
If TV is that important, then the people writing it should be compensated fairly.

If someone is being weird on the train you just get on another car. You don’t murder them. Wtf is going on that everyone doesn’t already know that???

I don’t know why people are using the term “vigilante” to describe the subway murderer. Vigilantes take crime into their own hands. But the victim of the subway murderer was not committing a crime.

Oh fun. We're back in that damned if you do damned if you don't cycle of:
A) Praise a Marvel movie, be deemed a sellout/corporate shill
B) Pan a Marvel movie, be deemed a pretentious snob trying to seem cool
Speaking as a professional critic, it's not that deep, gang. 👍👎

Ouch. There are plenty of bad and unintelligible reviewers out there, but is definitely not one of those!
So this is… unfortunate to hear.

What if New York City didn't have to pit libraries against schools, or parks against homeless services?
What if we diverted one single day of NYPD spending - a whopping $29 million - to be used in ways to actually help New Yorkers?

Seriously, the pain of getting a tattoo is nothing compared to the "don't SCRATCH it" healing phase.

.@NYCMayor hasn't called off all of the cuts to the city's 3 library systems -- he just called off April's "Program to Eliminate the Gap" (aka PEG)
Per @nypl spox, libraries still face budget cuts of $36.2M

Tried another location. Despite the hours posted online, the robo voice told me after much pleading on my end, they are closed.
This is absolutely ludicrous to have to chase down a prescription that I'm told is NOT on back order!

Yesterday I was told this would be filled yesterday. Didn't get the alert, so called today and the robo voice told me it would be filled by 6pm. Nope. The shipment didn't arrive. Maybe tomorrow? Maybe I should go to another location instead? Can they tell me who has it? Nope.

Three calls. Over a half hour on hold to find out the location doesn't have my RX in stock. Neither does the first one I called. They've suggested one an hour away, "They should have it." Can they tell me if one not so far away has it in stock? "No, but you can call them."

After 22 minutes, I hung up and called back. This time it took three minutes for a clerk to pick up say "please hold" and then throw me back into this purgatory.
this is ludicrous.
