I've tweeted for many years about how awful Richard "RMS" Stallman is - the pedophilia, the ableism, the misogyny. Inevitably, each time I do, dudes examine my receipts & then say "all those incidents are from years ago! he's changed now!" NOPE.https://medium.com/@selamie/remove-richard-stallman-fec6ec210794 …

They're literally the only reason he's remotely relevant today. They're continued use preserves his reputation.
-
Well b/c they are so good. And that should raise his rep why would anyone wanna deny that? The fact that he's a bad person is a different thing and that should lower his rep. These two are completely separate and unrelated issues. He might be bad but the licenses aren't.
-
They keep him and his harmful ideas and conduct in the community. You may think it's worth it. Mei clearly doesn't.
-
But the FOSS licenses are not harmful ideas at all. You can bring him down without destroying the good that he has also done. You can't say that he has only done bad things, he has done many good things too. We should acknowledge both and hold him accountable for the bad part.
