Straight people, 2018: "Why do The Gays always try to shoehorn their sexuality into movies?" Disney, 1991: "Belle, it's me! Our magical heterosexuality broke the curse! Our straightness made everyone stop being teacups and candles and shit!"

Its pretty wild that blatant interspecies relationships have long been considered child friendly as long as they're het but the second you even imply a character is queer thats forced adult content/part of a political agenda 😑

Hi, gay guy here, and lemme just say that that's a gross misinterpretation of what happened. They were saved because of love. Is it somehow wrong that they were a straight couple in that past fantasy setting? Is it wrong that they loved each other? Not everybody has to be gay.

I'm 100% FOR having any orientation in any movie, romance included. The problem is when people say it's wrong for films to be about straight people just like its wrong for me to complain about gays in a film. They didn't make Belle & beast straight for an ajenda. It's a classic.

I say if it's part of the story, fine, but don't go making it as a token guesture. Like, make it just an aspect of the character, not their big thing, that's just worse, you know? Forcing it in just to be there, no care if it's good

Don’t have a problem with characters being gay in films and shows, I do have a problem however when people complain that the main character is straight or white

Wasn’t one of those characters gay? Also I think the distinction for me at least is that they will make a character’s sexuality known when it doesn’t serve any story or personality purpose for the character straight or gay.

Weird how thats only an issue when it's queer people? Seldom does it get raised when movies end heterosexually ever after. Makes u think 🤔

What are you talking about? I’ve heard plenty of critics ask why two characters had to mention their relationship when it never had story impact I.e Latest Alien movie had bad plot points due to this. “Show horning” things into films does more harm than good

And yet it keeps happening and in competently made films (ie ones not like covenant) it barely registers for people, yet people take umbrage with even the thought of mentioning someone's gay because it's "not for a reason" as tho people are straight for a reason, makes u think 🤔

When a character constantly reminds you that they are gay because the writer sucks so bad they can’t give them an actual personality so that’s their only trait hurts the future chances of meaningful gay characters that aren’t entirely defined by their sexuality. It’s insulting

So mentioning it at all is the same as having no personality and means that well written gay characters can't exist. Weird, thought it was shoehorning. Wait didn't you say it was bad for it not to be related to their personality but now it IS their personality. Mikes u thkbk 🤔

Yeah it is but when that’s their only defining trait it’s detrimental to their goal of normalizing. It’s also pandering and used as an abusive marketing tool. You really think pay pal gives a fat fuck about pride month? No they’re doing it to trend and sell their services

Corporations are wretched and hypocritical but are reflect in part our society and if society suggests that queer identities are valid, its, unsurprisingly, validating. Weird that? Make uself think 🤔

I totally want more rep in Disney movies(and other movies!) But specifically the curse stated he would have to "love and be loved in return" regardless of who it was. He had to stop being an asshole, not get into a het relationship.
