electric chair, and questioned whether 'black people even have souls'. We must confront the ways in which race infects the criminal justice system, including decisions about death sentences.

How in the world did this not get resolved way back at the trial court? This is outrageous, absolutely unbelievable. Ordering lower court to "reconsider" is not sufficient. Judge there should be removed.

While Tharpe’s purely evil actions deserve justice, there is no excuse for the racist views of the juror whether intoxicated or not. Both represent two different worlds of sick; one emotional and mental, the other mental and ignorant - both are equally reprehensible and damaging

Hopefully this will encourage more to scrutiny of racial bias in jury deliberations.
