Setting aside the question of the intent of the electoral system, is it your belief that 34 states will agree to ratify an amendment that would effectively disperse the power to elect the President to about eight to ten states?
Such a basic principle of democracy -- the candidate with the most votes should win. While our sparsely populated states will resist, it's time to start the conversation -- especially when race underlies the system in the way that it does.

But the candidate with the most votes does win - he/she wins that state’s electors, underlying the republic of states (yes I am betraying my limited federal gov philosophy here). Considering basic math though, I just don’t see any way to 34 on this.

Here’s an idea I’ve tinkered with over the years that I wonder about more - states reforming their electoral process to award electors to the winner of each congressional district as opposed to winner take all. So whichever POTUS candidate wins FL CD-1 gets one electoral vote.
