The toll on black communities of uneven enforcement unconscionable and leads to the completely unnecessary incarceration. It is one of many black marks on the criminal justice system. All past convictions for marijuana use should be expunged, all people now incarcerated released.
Black people are about 3.6X more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession even though usage rates are comparable along lines of race.
As states legalize and the cannabis industry grows, ongoing racial injustices MUST be addressed.
