Locals who grew up with those monuments who may have had ancestors who fought in the war, still could support the preservation of their history. As flawed as it may have been, it was still their history. Less than 2% of those fought owned slaves. They fought for their Homeland

False. There were people who wanted the statues removed because of the pain they may inflict on others. There were people there who didn’t want them removed b/c they did not want our history erased. Then there were the white supremacists, who Trump never called “fine people”.
