1/ Thoughts on today’s #SCOTUS argument in the case challenging the #citizenshipquestion.
This case is about power, resources and race, and the extreme actions that this administration is willing to take to resist the growing racial diversity in our country.
2/ Troubling to see Justices Kavanaugh & Gorsuch play mental gymnastics by looking far beyond the record to justify the outcome they seek. Both cited Spain and France to suggest the #citizenshipquestion should stand here. This case has NOTHING to do with them.
3/ SG Noel Francisco made an outrageous and insulting suggestion at the end that people might start taking offense to gender and oppose gender questions next. Justice Sotomayor called him on it and asked whether he was suggesting Hispanics are seeking to boycott the Census.
4/ Frustrating that Justice Roberts was not willing to even probe into the extensive record showing the games that Wilbur Ross played in order to set up DOJ's ask for the #citizenshipquestion.
Ross went to DOJ, then to DHS and then ultimately to Sessions. He lied to Congress.
5/ Time and time again this administration has shown its disregard for science and facts.
For the Court to disregard overwhelming evidence and data on the #citizenshipquestion, even from the Census Bureau's own scientists, suggests the #SCOTUS also disregards science and truth.
6/ But the kicker is this DOJ claiming they need the #citizenshipquestion to enforce the Voting Rights Act. This administration hasn't brought a single VRA case and ignores the voter suppression we are seeing across US.
And this SCOTUS, under Roberts, killed Section 5 of the VRA
Two options: write human or take the fifth. Has to be counted regardless as an answer, just not the one they want and most certainly will not violate the law.
Why when the left loses do the rules have to change? "Abolish the electoral college! Expand scotus! Lower the voting age! Let illegals vote!" Instead of regrouping and giving actual voters what they want, you want to play a different game. Why?
