2018: a mere 10 Black students were even offered slots.

Novel thought - they are not getting an equal education in the first place. Passing along students who can’t do the work is demoralizing for them. The problem is much earlier in the educational system. It is criminal that they just pass kids rather than teach them.
Novel thought - let these “elite” schools become all-white and start constructing schools that serve only Black and Latino students. We need to admit that integrated schooling has done more harm than good for students of color and start building our own elite institutions.
As someone who almost failed a bunch of classes in my first year of Tech, and knew a kid who tutored for the test, yet failed out hard, I know we need better preparation and then a support system for kids while in these schools.
Even better, prepare them years in advance.

Yes 10. Raw number, not percentage. A dismaying number of “progressive” New Yorker have been marching in the streets, angrily demanding that this policy of exclusion continue. As if Brown decision never happened.
