Ridiculous! On the first day of school? Why would an adult do this to a child? Schools need those with compassion and a heart for service. Our children need advocates!!

Ah, they still do this huh? This happened many times during my childhood, seeing people fall literally pennies short, and I grew up in Merced. But no one cared then, because thats just how things were. It was considered normal.
It probably still considered normal, one case received publicity but it likely happens hundreds of times a day. Some sort of sensitivity training is needed that child will feel insecure over fitting in for a long time......
