Black & Latino students make up about 2/3 of NYC's 1.1M school children. But of 5,067 admission offers to specialized schools this year, 51.75% went to Asian students and 26.5% to white students. @nytimes for pointing out that Jim Crow is alive and well. However just increasing admissions might do more harm than good. Students need to feel welcome, safe, and supported in order to survive and thrive. Just having more blacks or latinos alone won't be enough. -
Students also need to be *prepared for the curriculum* with better programming beforehand.

It’s most definitely about the test. Pre k through 8 education is a separate issue. But even if you fixed that the text would still not be equitable.
