games remain zero sum but if you win more than you lose, you will move much faster. leaderboard placement is not just a function of inertia

I’ll have to see it in action then. I get top 4 most games, so if that weights heavily on my end in a short run. Maybe I’m underestimating the amount of players who will also fall rapidly with changes...

remember that mmr isn't capped either. people can just keep climbing. if you are winning more than you are losing, you will move up until you run into people that are as equally skilled as you

tbh the goal of an mmr system (at least historically) has been to find a stable number for each player that represents their current skill and allow slow movement upwards with gradual growth over time. i don't know if that's how people are looking at it in bg

I get that. Wouldn’t giving players 180-200 mmr points for winning early be against that philosophy? Especially with no post beta reset?

the point is to move good people away from less good people as quickly as possible so they can get quality matches. and my experience is that first place finishes are still awarding me 35-40 mmr even with quite a few games played

35-40? That’s high. I’m earning 28 for first now. I played wayyyyy too much on release day without knowing how to everything worked. I literally started at 2800 mmr ranking when I found out what that meant to my ranking. From there my first place finished we’re 28-32

i mean it's crazy that you've grinded back up 2200 mmr points in like a week, that sounds like you're moving in a pretty positive direction. are you getting a bunch of firsts now or are the matches close?

I usually get top 4 with 35ish percent of the time it being 1st.

sounds like you are doing well enough that quad mmr gains will get you to a much higher rating quickly!
