It’s not about an exact sub count (or views)–having a large community is 1 part, other factors are around authenticity and prominence, such as being highly searched or having the potential to be confused with channels that have similar names. More here: https://yt.be/help/3QfB

There will likely be a lot more scamming/impersonation in the comment sections across all channels, this was a good means to hinder that, seems kind of stupid

The article says more than 100,000 subs... however, channels with millions of subs are getting their's removed. Shane Dawson lost his verification too.
