"It's a huge distraction." Do you know how many acts of violence I've personally witnessed and experienced as a direct result of street level drug sales? They go together like peanut butter and jelly. @chesaboudin @MattHaneySFhttps://twitter.com/chesaboudin/status/1285817800150282241 …

"I now explain why using force against people who wish to use intoxicants inevitably harms them, harms the general public, and harms the legal system. " https://scholarship.law.georgetown.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1837&context=facpub …

Not disputing that we stop using force against people who use intoxicants. I'm just pointing out that violence goes hand in hand with street level drug dealing. There's a difference.

Violence goes hand in hand with prohibition is what that piece said IMO. When disputes arise that cannot be resolved by the traditional frameworks of court and law, like is in the case with black markets, violence results. Violence is from the prohibition not the drugs.

Reduced Harm programs work! Prohibition does not!

Replying to @KrajicekTravis @netfire4 and
Abstinence in recovery works and has worked. For millions of people. It is a form of prohibition isn't it? We have made the personal decision to prohibit drugs and alcohol in our lives. Because we had too. One is too many, a thousand is never enough.

Abstince is a choice. Prohibition is not. One is forced on you one is not. HUGE difference.
