Recapitulation theory (i.e. ontogeny repeats phylogeny) is a nice (but wrong) theory. As a human embryo develops, it looks like a mature amphibian, then reptile, and then a rabbit. Humanity’s older ancestors were likely amphibian, and then reptilian, before they were mammalian.
