Almost all the problems we have today have been generated by technologies in the past. Most of the problems in the future will be made from technologies of today. It’s an inescapable acceleration. One can only hope that the solution is to have more and better technology.

Technology becomes corrupt when man believes he is above nature, completely ignorant to the fact that he is nature. Technology is the self-manifestation of information. Where man falls is his attachment to information. As smart as we are, we lack wisdom.

We should accelerate faster. As long as accelerating generates competitive advantage, someone will keep doing it. Anyone who tries to stop or slow down will lose to whoever defects. God has yet to step in to save us, by induction, I assume he never will.
-
Are you picturing a Monty Python God coming down here and saying "hey guys, whoa there"? God will save us from technology by allowing 80+% of the population to be killed by bioengineered viruses or some shit like that
-
If a giant foot descends from heaven and crushes someone who really obviously needs smiting, I would be strongly inclined to convert to Christianity. If acts of god are indistinguishable from Murphy's law, I already believe in that god, and I don't see him saving anyone
-
I agree; I'm not religious either, but no believer other than a theological retard would parse "act of God" to mean something that is necessarily naturalistically inexplicable
-
I have nothing but respect for Christianity but it requires an epistemological stance that I personally find to be... untenable
-
I could never adopt it myself, but I suspect that has less to do with any inherent untenability than with the difficulty of changing fundamental epistemological stance—the gestalt switch requires seeing soberly the faults of one's own stance, which is tough to do!

technology will always accelerate forward if we want it to or not is irrelevant

Accelerate faster. Particularly through open source type initiatives, which will be crucial in ensuring that tech is more evenly distributed. Science and tech represent the greatest tools for accelerating our own evolution as a species we have at our disposal.

I think we should get as wise as we are smart. “Women represent the triumph of matter over mind, just as men represent the triumph of mind over morals.”

Proper use of the technology developed is our biggest issue. So properly using our tools and then accelerate.

Technology is and always has been the stick with which we poked issues. It is the direct extension of our advancing minds and is our greatest chance for both utter destruction and unimaginable prosperity. It is time we finally look upon the stars and ascend to new discoveries.

I think it’s irrelevant. Tech evolves but humans do not

I dont think the question should be about the speed of acceleration. At this point we cant go backwards without a major collapse. I think the conversation should be about setting and enforcing ethical boundaries before we create some technology that gets out of hand.

If
@elonmusk can't convince the world to be aware of the possible pitfalls of certain technologies then I suspect we're on this roller coaster until it's finished. What I can do is conduct myself in a way so as to influence my little corner of technology to the best of my abilityThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

i think the cycles we go through are unlikely to be shifted through awareness and human intent. but that tech is flash in the pan and other parts of the cycle will soon flush most of them down the memory hole. we'll turn around, but not on purpose.

Accellerate. Because imo coming tech will save us from our tech now; biotech, cleaner fuels, solar cells & batteries, more advanced environmental remediation, etc. Most important is that tech gets nearly invisible, backed out of sight, so humanity & nature takes prominence again.
