One thing I noticed - a thought triggers negative emotion, then the emotion triggers other resonating thoughts that reinforce it. Hours later the original thought is forgotten, yet the negative emotion lingers; sometimes more intensely.

It’s all trickery. Pain feeding on pain. Better to catch it [take note for next time] and watch the corresponding feeling it triggers. The thought will go back unsuccessful, with its tail tucked; the feeling of pain will burn and dissipate.
