"Unfortunately, in publishing, you have to work VERY hard to even have the chance to get lucky." This is VERY very true.

Thinking today about the paradox of effort in publishing—most people who see success (a book deal, etc) have worked *incredibly* hard to get there. However, that success was also largely determined by luck, not the effort that was put in. I think sometimes people are reluctant…

Still reeling from Danielle Deadwyler's Oscar nomination omission on Tuesday. That was one of the greatest acting performances from anyone last year. Subtle, affecting, emotionally devastating. A moment that will go down in history as one of the Academy's biggest mistakes.

I will still accept, "the babadook" though when referring to me or gays in general

We recommend avoiding general and often dehumanizing “the” labels such as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, the disabled, the college-educated. Instead, use wording such as people with mental illnesses. And use these descriptions only when clearly relevant.

Authors, please don’t feel like your B&N posts are too much. Sales are good, people appreciate them. And if anyone hates it or thinks it’s annoying that’s a them problem. Also, keep in mind that this is Twitter, where everyone hates everything. You’re doing great, sweeties ❤️

This is in 1 week from today! And I think I might drop the first blurb on the day before for anticipation. Any guesses on who it might be from? 👀

Things I've noticed: - More energy in the morning. - Sleeping much better. - Food cravings not as strong - More endorpins each time I work out. - Cardio health is already better. - Clothes fit better. - Confidence increasing. - Appreciating small wins more

I'm doing a pretty aggressive (but sustainable) diet plus work out regime mixed with intermittent fasting o 14 hours a day 3-4 days a week, because I'm happy with the way I feel in my own body, and honestly the changes only 1 week in are amazing?

Chloe Bennet has responded to criticism that she wouldn't be able to share the screen with the caliber of actors like Samuel. Jackson: "Your tweets aren’t going to age well..." Did Bennet just confirm her #MCU return? Here's what we think: thedirect.com/article/chloe-

Y’all should’ve done this with Alfre Woodard in CLEMENCY. I can now say this forever and won’t shut up about it. 🥰

Andrea Riseborough’s nomination changes the game, it really does. That kind of last minute surge for a small indie that hasn’t shown up anywhere else but Independent Spirits and actually gets the Oscar nomination in a category like Best Actress I can’t even recall. Incredible!

Hi, #writersoftwitter! i'm Kosoko Jackson, author of a lot of stuff. My new ya, THE FOREST DEMANDS ITS DUE, is a horror fantasy that comes out 10/3! Cover reveal in 8 days! It follows a Black boy who gets an invite to a PWI and discovers a killer memory wiping vengeful god.

At least for me, & i'd love to hear from Black women, I don't think the lack of diversity took away from what this film was telling me. Does diversity make things more rich? Yep. 100%. But would Women Talking have been richer for it and would it have been handled with care? IDK.

And also, it wasn't a feminist utopia to me. It was a movie about the cost and price of making a choice, and sometimes the unknown, be it a win or a loss, is better than the pain you know you'll have to experience. i also don't think every piece of cinema needs to rep everyone.

I understand, since the original does take place in Bolivia, there is commentary that should be mentioned about non-whites in the movie. But the choice to shift the setting to a nondescript american area does remove that lens. Why that was done i think is a valid critique!

I really don't know how I feel about this take. On the one hand, I understand absolutely what Wendell is saying but also, this is a very violent film that doesn't at all personify (to me?) feminist utopia and i'm not sure I want to see Black women brutalized on screen (again)?

that last scene in till? with Danielle admitting she didn't think the "problems of Black folks in the south were her problem but learned that when something effects one of us it effects ALL of us"? coupled with her emotion when she found out her son was murdered? that was ART.

Viola Davis and Danielle Deadwyler both missing Best Actress is absolutely ridiculous. #OscarNominations2023
