If possible I’d also like to see a 3000 word research report where they explain rationales behind their research, methodology, research results and their implications, with APA-styled citations.

Oh in fact I’d like to see their research proposal first. At least 1500 words, with proper citations from valid, peer-reviewed sources. Need to know how the hell this research got a thumbs up

The terms of agreement that you agreed to, apparently without reading. Yes, it's their website, they can do what they want with it. You're not required to use it.

That's why I was skeptical about the Facebook thing. Facebook isn't stealing your information, it's using the information YOU put on THEIR website, which you agreed for them to use. I think Facebook is a bad company, but people should have realized that before making an account.

In theory people sign a blank check, the thing Is the alternative would be not to use Google and that sounds hard

But that's what everyone did before the past 20 years. It's certainly far more convenient having Google, no doubt, but it's not necessary, and (unless your job relates to it or something) no one is forcing you to use it.
