2 schoolboys arrested by riot police near Kwun Tong swimming pool 8:15am. Unknown why. Today's the 1st day back at school & there've been several reports of police stopping & searching schoolkids. When things like this occur, it's a sign of how deeply the crackdown's penetrating.pic.twitter.com/FtdETiAOU1

This pattern of targeting schoolkids is striking: After masks were banned in early Oct, schoolkids protested in large numbers, wearing masks to school & holding masked human chains. Police largely backed off. Now that masks have been unbanned by High Court, police targeting youth

I'm trying to figure out what's going on w police atm. I suspect a higher-up said the denouement of the CUHK siege (police withdrawing, protesters leaving) was an unacceptable encouragement to 'violent rioters'; thus the PolyU siege & the stepped-up targeting of young people.

It's unclear whether #HK govt & police are thinking strategically, trying to provoke more protests in order to justify postponing/cancelling District Council elections, or we're just moving to a more severe stage of the crackdown.

If you look at PolyU siege, mass arrests in Kowloon, smothering of protest in Central & targeting of youth upon returning to school this morning, it appears there's a more blanket crackdown policy afoot.

It appears one of the girls was arrested; reason unknown. So far, 5 confirmed arrests of schoolkids this morning, 4 other possible ones.pic.twitter.com/daGK45nzAc

Most of the police stop&searches & arrests of schoolkids this morning occurred at/near MTR stations. Kwun Tong, Island, Tsuen Wan, East & West Rail lines were delayed due to protesters obstructing doors. Perhaps police suspected the kids of being involved.https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/component/k2/1493366-20191120.htm …

This is so wrong. This should not even be possible without one of the parents around. They are legally responsible.

This is crazy. Getting the kids back into school would be one if the best ways to deescalate and this will deter them from returning. Closing the schools was a big mistake. The same happened in the mainland in 1966-67.

With discipline suddenly removed high school kids ran amok for months and many of China's cultural icons were trashed. But when history is censored or supressed leaders don't learn from it.
