  4. Unsurprisingly, the CE didn't come out to meet the striking workers or agree to a meeting. Instead, they were met by an outsourced worker & handed him documents addressed to the CE including tens of thousands of signatures on a petition demanding the border with China be closed.

  6. The march is setting off from pedestrian bridge near govt HQ to the CE's office. At the front of the march, HAEA leaders hold placards reading "Stop 'if we burn, you burn'." That's a protest slogan but in this case, it means govt is pulling HK down because it won't close border.

  7. Striking Hospital Authority workers are now gathering in Admiralty to march to the Chief Executive's office at govt HQ and demand a meeting. They're joined by workers from many other unions showing their support. Livestream:

  8. A nice photo of the protest in Sai Kung, one of six places around where protests occurred last night. I can't remember another protest in Sai Kung during all these months of protests; perhaps this is the first, against govt refusal to close the border with China.

  9. Few opponents of dictatorial regimes or protesters have won the Nobel Peace Prize in last 2 decades: 2011 2010 Shirin Ebadi 2003 Authoritarianism is currently one of the greatest threats to peace. Time to award NPP to freedom fighters: protesters!

  10. I hope the Norwegian Nobel Committee has the courage to stand up to bullying & the wisdom to award the prize to protesters. Abiy Ahmed was a what-were-they-thinking? choice in 2019. In 2018, lost out to Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege, excellent choices.

  11. Very welcome nomination. This is the 2nd time US Congresspeople have nominated protesters for the Nobel Peace Prize. They nominated the in 2018 & in 2019.

  13. is only place in world where people have protested govt policies re coronavirus & been arrested for it. Yesterday police also arrested a man for 'spreading fake virus news'. 1st time ever. Sounds like Chinese police arresting ppl for 'spreading rumors'

  16. Over 7,000 Hospital Authority workers participated in the strike today, close to 10% of all HA staff. Over 4,500 were nurses, 17% of HA nursing staff. 350 doctors, 5% of all HA doctors, took part.

  17. Because govt refuses to close China border or screen arrivals to , citizens in Tin Sui Wai took it upon themselves to screen at a bus stop near the Shenzhen Bay port of entry, 1 of 3 still open. Unsurprisingly, this didn't please police, who showed up & tried to stop them.

  19. Since 2pm striking Hospital Authority workers have been lining up outside 7 hospitals around to sign in to the strike. By the end of the day, we should have a clear picture of just how many have walked out. This phase goes to Fri, then HAEA will meet to determine next steps.

  21. Big queues entering at Shenzhen Bay one hour ago. If indicative of how many are still coming from China, not sure reducing the open ports of entry to three yesterday has made much difference. The majority of the public as well as HA workers & experts say, Close the border!
