I'm posting this because it fascinated me and made me laugh because of how alien this way of thinking was to me. And hey, I respect that this person likes games this way. Play what you love! If you love tons of detailed rules and more complex/"realistic" math, more power to ya!

Though maybe also try to be understanding of the way other folks enjoy something. This comment isn't the nicest at times, and is a bit closed minded. People like different things. In the end, just sharing this because it was fascinating. And maybe to spark discussion, I dunno.

I'm reminded a bit of someone on the old rpg-create mailing list who seriously believed that people who created rules-light RPGs actually hated RPGs and were trying to destroy them from within. Most of the rest of us reacted to that with "who hurt you, man?"

-
So bizarre. I've found that rules lite encourages creative interpretations and scenarios that you wouldn't otherwise get. There's more creative thinking and problem solving in the rules lite games I've been in.

This person must be a blast to watch an action movie with, "He should have taken a lot more falling damage! Come on!"

This kind of review pains me so much They're speaking like their personal preference is the absolute critical truth, bloated it out of proportion and...called back to the imaginary glory days?
-
Their entire review can be boiled down to "The game is geared to narrative over simulation. Not for me personally" and communicated as much information

The oh-so-sly dig on "Common Core math" tells me 100% of what I need to know about this reviewer's opinion, sentences before the "notorious GM" VS envy.

Wow. Yeah, that really could be boiled down to "I want realistic crunch over cinematic flair". Not necessarily a bad take. I'm actually curious what their thoughts would be on something like GURPS or Hero.
-
Funnily, for overly realistic sim-game, I'd probably use a rules-light game over GURPS too. Well, given that other people at the table actually know how shit works in real life. No amount of rules can replace knowledge and experience on the subject.
