Genuine question, do you tip when you order TO-GO? Obviously you tip when you get delivery or when someone serves you but are you supposed to tip when you order food & go pick it up yourself?

a lot of times the person putting your order together is doing work. sure the cooks cook it, but there is a lot of components to make your to go meal perfect. always tip even when you pick up.

I just did a little research about server wages in the US and it looks like hourly salary PLUS hourly tips has to come to at least minimum wage or the company has to give the server a salary increase to match cost of living. It’s illegal for a company to have a server make less

yeah, that's standard. servers make about $2.13/hr and to go specialist make about $4-something. but i am saying, they SHOULD be making server's tips to make up for slow nights, but they don't or the taxes eat it. it's a weird fucking system.

granted this is also nc-based and our cost of living is generally LOWER than other parts of the US. but yeah, servers make $2.13 + tips thus why i had to always work instead of going to school cause i couldn't afford to NOT work. the cycle of poverty is kinda shit tbh.

I had no idea that To-Go was a separate position. I always figured it was the chefs putting my food into a box instead of a plate and the server just having me sign the bill. This is very helpful to know!

yeah you should def tip them! I generally just throw like 2$ at them for getting my to-go order ready.

Thanks for this; I think I'm going to start tipping on my to-go orders (provided there's an electronic way to do so, because otherwise I'm incapable of it).
