Never have I ever heard a Ref say unsportsmanlike for a player “Throwing another players shoe 20 yards down the field” In my life 😂 Stupid penalties will get you beat LSU drives down field after penalty to kick a last min 57 yard field goal to upset #6 Florida 37-34

So the Splatoon community, in support of the Smash community, has 30% of the top teams in this weekend's Spl2 NA Open with Team names in support of Melee and Smash. So what does do in response? They cancelled their livestream for tomorrow's Finals.

And of course the ACC’s decision ensures that we’ll get an 8th different non-Atlantic Division rep in the champ game in 8 years: 2013- Duke 2014- GT 2015- UNC 2016- VT 2017- Miami 2018- Pitt 2019- UVA 2020- ND The beauty of this is beyond words.

Melee has historically had ~75% of its viewership come from esports When COVID hit, we expected viewership to fall off hard. No tournies after all Astoundingly, Melee is up 13% year on year. In an era where FGC viewership is struggling (Ultimate is down 55%..), Melee perseveres

I wish for everyone that we could get to the point where TOs don’t have to run tournaments with terror ever-present in the back of their minds on whether THIS is going to be the one where Nintendo finally makes a statement and have to spend years paying off the expenses.

I’ve certainly been happy to see the Melee scene thrive despite the end of that particular tournament series, and I continue to enjoy it to this day, but I’ve also always been a little disappointed to feel like I got gated out by my uncertainly based on that initial conversation.

At the time I pretty much just went full-on “whatever” mode and also ran the first true PM national, because the years seemed to suggest that Nintendo really didn’t care to knock anyone out, but of course 2013 happened.

Obviously that’s not the end of the story. A few years later reached out to me and asked me some questions about Melee’s history, and we collaborated to bring FC Legacy to the table in order to facilitate his many interviews he wanted to conduct.

At the time Melee was winding down anyway, and Brawl was bad, so there were other reasons in play, but that was a sock to the gut and really left me wondering how I could justify the risk to my future family.

and I was told that not only could I not work with Nintendo, but if they ever found out that I was running events, that they would take legal action against me. At the time I was young and recently married, and I did not really have a good grasp on what all options they had,
