As some others have mentioned, this essentially feels like you're paying for DLC or an in-app purchase to unlock something special like an avatar. Will "unlockables" be the next thing on streamers? Eh. But Quarantine certainly makes it an easy time to learn if it has legs.

FWIW: - A number of people are locked into a 3-yr D+ subscription where they paid ~141 upfront last August. (comes out to less than $4/month) - Verizon offered D+ for free to customers for a yr (still going)

What I'm getting at: some subscribers haven't technically paid for D+ in months or at all so they may not mind spending $29.99. (Personally, I think the Founders Circle should get access to it an extra day early.)

I get why they do it but surely Disney would earn way less this way than a traditional release in the theater
-
Nobody knows that. That's why they're trying it. You gotta figure a family of four is paying at least $30 in just tickets if not more to see it in the theater. This is a trial balloon to figure out if what you just said is true or not, and find out what the right price point is.

Wait wouldn’t it come to Disney plus eventually anyways
-
could be the case in a few months. Feels like we're in the wild wild west a bit rn.

I think we get that part, but it is just too steep.
