I'm a freshwater ecologist that studies a range of organisms & habitats to fundamentally understand how humans affect aquatic ecosystem health. As a woman scientist, I also use Twitter to discuss & amplify issues related to equity, diversity & inclusion in the academy.

I rarely talk about things I'm doing regarding diversity and inclusion on Twitter b/c it feels like bragging about something I could always be doing more for (and still learning about) — however, a trusted friend mentioned that it could add value, so here's an email I sent today

How did we get to this backwards land where 'saving' declining bees means increasing the stresses to them by adding millions of non-native disease ridden bees to their environment?

Avalanche control today in Kananaskis, Alberta. Snow moves FAST! So important to learn & practice safety, and always check conditions before going into the backcountry. 🇨🇦 🇺🇸

  18. For I'd like to feature grad student 's study system - coastal wetlands of Lake Ontario. Eric is studying the plankton communities of these degraded systems along a urban-agricultural gradient. Here are some pics of Lynde Marsh in Whitby, ON.

Happy Twitter! For all their service and their beauty, let’s celebrate shallow open water, stan for swamps, applaud the marshes, give thanks for fens, and of course, toast the bogs (with a peaty beverage).

Such a useful thread!! Take home points: recall your original research question, plot your response variables first, and correctly specify what type of data you have!

Oh , this quote resonates with me as someone on the job market. Being a kind, productive colleague, striving to an excellent teacher and mentor, and doing K-12 outreach will always be more important to me than my H index.
